For a board to be effective, it must have directors with different expertise, perspectives, and opinions around the table, and embrace disagreement and debate to make thoughtful, informed decisions. But moderating the discussion to ensure everyone is heard and all points are understood can be challenging for even the most seasoned chairs.

In this white paper, originally published as part of WATSON’s Chair Suite, Dee Marcoux describes the model she uses to approach group decision making. Dee developed and honed this model during her career as an executive in the energy and mineral industries, and many years serving as a director and a Vice Chair.
